Mark A. Nelson

Mark is a Senior Private Equity and Corporate Finance Executive with over 30 years of experience developing, evaluating, negotiating and closing a wide range of investment and lending transactions, most recently in the Impact/Sustainable Investment and Equipment Finance space. Mark’s early career experience was in new business development, strategic planning and corporate finance with several Fortune 50 companies including PepsiCo. and American Express.

Prior to joining RLG Capital, Mark was Managing Director at Sentry Financial where he co-led Sentry’s Sustainable Investments practice.  Mark sourced high-quality investment opportunities in energy efficiency, renewable energy, battery storage, water technology, waste to value, Ag-tech, alternative fuels, distributed hydro and wave/tidal energy from Cleantech and impact venture capital firms, private equity firms, family office investors and sustainable technology companies.  Mark also developed project finance, lease and “As a Service” financing opportunities and programs.

Mark also served as the Chief Financial Officer for Enhanced Clean Fuels (ECF), a clean energy project development and financing business funded by Sentry and other institutional investors. ECF's mission was to become a leading investor and owner of small scale GTL plants in North America leveraging the explosion of unconventional shale gas discoveries in North America to convert lower cost natural gas into super clean liquid transportation fuels and high value solvents and waxes.

Prior to joining Sentry, Mark was Founding Partner of Cornerstone Capital Group, a private equity fund focused on investing in growth-stage technology companies and mid-market operating company buyouts. Mark also served as Chief Financial Officer for one of Cornerstone’s portfolio companies.

Previously, Mark worked in the Investment Banking Industry where he provided financial advisory, capital placement and M&A advisory services to mid-market companies.

Mark began his career with American Express and PepsiCo, Inc., where he managed the launch of a number of new products and businesses and provided regular support and advisory services for American Express and PepsiCo’s CEOs and CFOs on strategic planning, business development and mergers and acquisitions.

Over the years, Mark has served in a number of church, community and non-profit capacities including the Boy Scouts of America.

Mark is a graduate, cum laude, from the University of Utah with a degree in Finance, where he was the Student Body President. He also obtained a Masters of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.

Mark and his wife Sarah have been married for over 30 years and have three children. Mark loves to golf, road bike, snow and waterski, and to spend time with his family on the slopes, beach, lake or river.
