Brad Agle, PhD


Since 2009, Brad has served as the George W. Romney Endowed Professor at Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management. He teaches classes on ethics and leadership and also serves as a Fellow and Chair of BYU’s Wheatley Institution Ethics Initiative. Brad also chairs the bi-annual Teaching Ethics in Universities conference and the annual International Association for Business and Society conference. He sits on the editorial board of Business Ethics Quarterly and on the ethics committee of USA Synchro. Prior to BYU, Brad spent 17 years as a professor of Strategy, Organizations, and Environment at the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business. He also served as the inaugural director of the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership at that institution, a position he held for 8 years. Prior to his academic career, he worked for Seattle First National Bank and IBM. In 2014 he published the book “Research Companion to Behavioral Ethics in Organizations: Constructs and Measures.” In 2016 he will publish the book "The Field Guide to Business Ethics."

Brad is an active researcher concentrating on business ethics, stakeholder management, CEO leadership, and on how religion influences business. His writings appear in journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Business Ethics Quarterly, Journal of Business Ethics, Business and Society, Human Relations, Sloan Management Review, Leadership Quarterly, and Organizational Dynamics, and his work has been featured in media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, USA Today, CNN, and CNBC.

Dr. Agle received a Ph.D. in Business Management from the University of Washington and a B.S. in Information Management from BYU. Brad and his wife Kristi are the parents of four children.


Daniel G. Gifford

Operating Partner

Dan is an entrepreneur and real estate developer. He has developed several hundred million in real estate assets and has funded and developed several venture and growth companies. As a former venture partner of Renewable Tech Venture he helped raise $20 million for clean tech companies and raised millions for a biotech company in partnership with MD Anderson. He also managed the growth and business development of Foulger – Pratt from $20 million to nearly $140 million in annual revenues in seven years.

Dan served as Chairman of the Board for Cause for Hope, a non-profit NGO he founded, and raised over $10 million to expand operations into 5 Latin American countries and 20 offices. Dan has served on the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCU). Dan served as Vice President of Marketing for CENTEX, a $2 Billion Fortune 500 service company and nationwide builder, where he oversaw strategic planning and the overall marketing effort for the East Coast Division. He currently serves as President of DG Development & Investment, Inc. 

Dan holds a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Management, cum laude, from Arizona State University. He is married to Heidi Nielson Gifford, with whom he has six children.


John Hoffmire, phd

Senior Advisor

John is Director of the Entrepreneurs in Residence Programme at Saïd Business School of Oxford University. John is a leading expert in the fields of employee ownership, impact investing, and entrepreneurship, and his achievements in both the academic and business worlds are extensive.

After finishing his PhD at Stanford University, he worked as a consultant at Bain & Company. He went on to become the founder and CEO of his own investment firm which he sold to American Capital, which then went public. John left American Capital as Senior Investment Officer when the company reached $1 billion in assets.

Throughout his for-profit and non-profit career, John has helped to start and grow 35 companies, in addition to the hundreds of firms he has either financed or advised. 



Operating Partner

Darrell has 25 years of business strategy, leadership and operating experience.  Darrell is currently the Founder and President of Corrective Education Company (CEC), a technology and education company that provides services to retailers and the government as a restorative justice offering to help streamline our criminal justice system and give offenders a second chance. 

Before CEC, Darrell held various executive leadership and general management positions for ten years at LexisNexis (RELX Group), a $3 billion information services company.  During his time at LexisNexis, he led the turnaround of two declining business units and was promoted to Vice President and Managing Director of its $300 million Business Information Group.  Darrell also led and launched a complete reinvention of its legal research platform.  Prior to LexisNeixis, Darrell worked as a management consultant at Bain & Company on strategy, M&A, and operational improvement initiatives with companies in software, manufacturing, retail, and business services. 

Darrell is an engineer by background and spent his early career with 3M Company where he worked in their prestigious Optimized Operations group working on process and operations improvement.  He led projects in Thailand and Malaysia, as well as Ann Arbor, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois. 

Darrell earned a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University where he received an Outstanding Service Award as President of the AIChE, and served on the Board of the BYU Chemical Engineering Alumni group. Darrell also earned an MBA from Harvard Business School where he was active in its student ethics and honor system.   


JeffREY Jagard

Operating Partner

Jeff has more than 15 years experience as a business leader and alternative investments professional. He currently works at BNY Mellon Wealth Management as a Vice President out of the Century City, CA office.

His primary role with RLG Capital is to assist with deal sourcing and capital placement. Prior to RLG Capital, Jeff spent 7 years at Sanford C. Bernstein as a vice president and investment advisor, where he launched and grew their Utah Market to over $200 million in AUM. His client services included advisement on merger and acquisition strategy, private debt and equity investments, and venture capital placements. Before Bernstein, Jeff ran the Salt Lake City office for MetLife Institutional. He began his career in Phoenix, Arizona at Unum Institutional.

He is a graduate of Southern Utah University, where he earned a BA degree in English. In addition to his work at RLG Capital, Jeff is the Co-founder / Managing Partner of the hedge fund firm JDW Partners located in San Francisco.


Greg Martin

Operating Partner

Greg Martin is a seasoned entrepreneur and CEO with a unique accomplishment: three companies he founded and/or served in senior leadership have been ranked in the top 1% of the annual Inc. 5000 list of the fastest growing privately held businesses in America (1996, 2004, 2016). To date, the businesses have generated in excess of $2 billion in aggregate revenue and continue growing at double digit annual rates. He has been honored twice as an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist.

In addition, Greg is a passionate advocate of corporate culture as a key component of sustainable competitive advantage. His commitment to developing and rewarding high performance teams has been recognized with a number of best workplace awards.

In 1995 he joined Young Presidents’ Organization (“YPO”), a global network of over 25,000 member-CEOs, and served in leadership positions at the local, regional, and international level, including three years on YPO’s Board of Directors.

He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s three-year Owner/President Management program and received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University.


David M. Nilsson

Operating Partner

Dave is a frequent RLG contributor as a due diligence specialist. He was recently an operating partner of Banyan Ventures, an early-stage investment firm in Salt Lake City founded in 2003. Dave began with Banyan as the CEO of Bright Living—Senior Care, a Banyan portfolio company, which was sold in early 2014.

Dave’s work experience includes finance, management, due diligence, real estate development, production homebuilding, hospitality, education technology, senior care and startup management. He began his career as an investment banker in the London office of Security Pacific/Hoare Govett where he focused on capital investments in the UK and Italy. Then as a Vice President of Bank of America, he provided structured financing and equity placements to both public and private corporations. Next, he became a project-level partner and a principal of City-Core Development and Hospitality, a San Francisco-based integrated real estate operating and investment company focused on urban infill mixed-use properties. As Vice President of Strategic Planning & Finance at The Surland Companies, Dave provided oversight on planning, entitlements, home design, and finance for their land development and homebuilding operations. In 2006, Dave was the acting CEO who restructured, packaged, and sold the homebuilding company to Standard Pacific Corporation (NYSE: SPC) with a closing price that exceeded pro forma by 40%.

Dave earned a BA in Economics from Brigham Young University and his Master’s in Business/Real Estate from the University of Southern California. He is happily married with four children.
